Trevor Timm is executive director of the Freedom of the Press Foundation, and a lawyer and activist fighting for free speech and government transparency. Timm is a prolific writer whose work has appeared in The Guardian, Salon, The Atlantic, Al Jazeera, Foreign Policy, Harvard Law and Policy Review, Politico, and PBS MediaShift.

Freedom of the Press, and Freedom of Speech are in the First Amendment, and they're vital to the definition of the United States and what it stands for. So why aren't journalists who speak out for government transparency safe and comfortable inside our nation's borders? Trevor Timm fights for those rights with the Freedom of the Press Foundation. Whistleblowers like Chelsea Manning shouldn't be intimidated to speak the truth to U.S. citizens, and people who so much as visit Wikileaks shouldn't be tracked. Cenk Uygur talks about all this and more in this special interview with Trevor Timm in TYT's series on civil liberties and national security.
